The Instacart new-shopper bonus & how code BEAN85579C works
Short version: The new-shopper bonus is a one-time reward. You get it after you finish a set number of batches inside a limited window once you start shopping. To qualify you have to be a brand-new shopper and enter code BEAN85579C when you sign up. The dollar amount, the batch count, and the deadline all vary by market and by whatever promotion is running when you join. So check the live terms in the Instacart Shopper app before you bank on a number.
Plenty of "sign-up bonus" pages slap a big dollar figure at the top and leave it there. We won't, because that number isn't fixed. Instacart runs different new-shopper offers in different cities and at different times of year, and only Instacart can tell you what's live for your area right now. Here's what we can actually do. We can walk you through how the bonus works, what has to be true for it to pay, and the few reasons it sometimes doesn't. No surprises.
Who is eligible
- New shoppers only. This reward exists to welcome first-time Instacart shoppers. Shopped with Instacart before, or already have an active shopper account? You generally won't qualify for a new-shopper reward.
- You meet the basic requirements. You need to be the age of majority where you live (18+ in most US states), have a smartphone, a valid government ID, and a bank account for direct deposit. You also need to be able to lift about 50 lbs and pass a background check. Full-Service shoppers need a car too. In-Store shoppers don't.
- The code is on your account before you start. BEAN85579C has to be attached during sign-up. Tacking it on after you've already run a few batches usually doesn't work.
- You're in a supported market. Instacart runs across the US and Canada. But bonus promotions are targeted by region, so an offer that's live in one city might not exist in the next one over.
How the bonus actually works, step by step
-
Enter code BEAN85579C at sign-up.
When you create your shopper account on the official site, look for the promo or referral code field and type in BEAN85579C before you finish. This is the step people miss most. If you don't see a field, finish sign-up anyway, then check the Shopper app's promotions or referral section and make sure the code reads as applied.
-
Get approved and activated.
You'll clear the background check and get through onboarding. The bonus clock usually won't start ticking until your account is active and you can accept batches.
-
Complete your batch target inside the window.
The offer spells out a target, something like "complete X batches within your first Y days." Both numbers shift by market and promotion. A batch is a completed shopping and delivery order, or a completed shop if you're In-Store. Only completed ones count toward the target.
-
The bonus posts to your earnings.
Hit the target inside the window and Instacart adds the bonus on top of your regular batch pay and tips. It usually lands in a following pay cycle. Timing rides on your market's payout schedule.
Important: We can't tell you the exact bonus amount or batch target for your city, because Instacart sets those and they show up in your app. For a sense of scale, guides commonly report figures from around $200 in shopper-heavy markets up to $750 or more where shoppers are scarce. Treat that range, and any other dollar figure you see online, as a rough illustration. The only number that counts is the one in your Shopper app. Not a promise.
Payout timing at a glance
| Stage | What happens | Typical timing |
|---|---|---|
| Sign-up | Code BEAN85579C entered and shown as applied | Day you register |
| Activation | Background check clears, account goes active | Often a few days to about 2 weeks, varies |
| Earning window | You complete the required batches | A set number of days from activation |
| Bonus payout | Reward added to earnings after target is met | Usually the next pay cycle after you qualify |
Every new-shopper promotion follows this general shape. The exact day counts and pay-cycle timing get set locally, though. Your Shopper app is the real source of truth.
Why a bonus sometimes doesn't post
The code wasn't added
This is the big one. If BEAN85579C never got attached to your account at sign-up, nothing links the promotion to your batches. Check the promotions or referral area of the app right away. Don't wait until after your first shop.
Not enough batches in time
Miss the target by even a single batch, or finish after the deadline, and the reward won't trigger. Cancelled or incomplete batches usually don't count.
Region or promotion mismatch
If no new-shopper promotion is running in your market when you join, or your area isn't covered, there may be nothing to earn even with the code on your account.
Not a new shopper
Old or existing shopper accounts generally don't qualify for a new-shopper reward, code or no code.
Onboarding not finished
If your background check is still pending or activation isn't done, the earning window may not have opened yet. So batches you think are counting might not be.
Pay cycle timing
Sometimes the bonus just hasn't hit its scheduled payout date. Give it through the next full pay cycle before you assume something broke.
How to confirm your bonus in-app
- Open the Instacart Shopper app and head to the promotions, referrals, or earnings section.
- Check that the code BEAN85579C shows as applied to your account.
- Make sure the offer lists your batch target and deadline, then track your completed batches against it.
- Once you hit the target, watch your earnings or pay history for the bonus line in the next pay cycle.
- If it's overdue and everything above checks out, reach Instacart Shopper support through the app. They're the only ones who can adjust or confirm a bonus.
We're an independent guide. We can't look up your account or pay you. Instacart alone decides eligibility and payment. Our job is simple: make sure you enter BEAN85579C correctly and understand the rules before you start.
How to tell your bonus actually tracked
The one thing worth checking early: that the offer attached to your account. Open the Shopper app after you're approved and look for a bonus or promotions tracker. If code BEAN85579C registered, you'll see your batch target and how many days are left to hit it. If you don't see anything, contact shopper support before you start counting on the money, since a code that never attached generally can't be added later.
From there it's simple. Complete the batches inside the window, keep an eye on the counter, and the bonus pays out on top of your regular earnings. The amount and the target vary by market, so trust the number in your own app over anything you read online, including here.

Bonus terms, FAQ
How much is the Instacart new-shopper bonus?
It changes by market and by whatever promotion is live when you join, so there's no one number. Instacart sets the amount and shows it in the Shopper app. If a site quotes a fixed dollar figure, be skeptical. Treat it as an example, not a guarantee.
Do I have to enter BEAN85579C to get the bonus?
Yes. The code needs to be on your account at sign-up so the promotion links to your batches. Type BEAN85579C into the promo or referral field during registration, then confirm it reads as applied in the app.
Can I add the code after I've already started shopping?
Usually not. New-shopper codes are built to go on before you begin. If you missed it, check the app's promotions section right away, and if there's no way to add it, contact Instacart support. Just don't count on it working after the fact.
Does the code expire, or is there a limit on how many people use it?
The referral code doesn't expire and isn't capped at one person, so there's no rush and no "used up." Any number of new shoppers can enter BEAN85579C whenever they sign up. The time limit lives on the bonus, not the code: after you join, you get a set window, often about 30 days, to hit the batch target and lock in the offer.
How many batches do I need to complete?
The promotion in your market sets the target, say a certain number of completed batches inside a set number of days. Your app shows the exact number and deadline. Only completed batches count.
When does the bonus get paid?
Once you meet the target inside the window, the bonus usually lands in your earnings the next pay cycle. Exact timing follows your market's payout schedule.
Why didn't my bonus post?
Most of the time the code wasn't added at sign-up, or the batch target wasn't met before the deadline. Other reasons: you're not a new shopper, no promotion is active in your region, onboarding isn't finished, or the payout date just hasn't come around yet. Check each one in the app before you contact support.
Is In-Store shopping eligible for the bonus too?
Both roles are part of the shopper program. Full-Service means you shop and deliver and need a car. In-Store means shop only, no car. Whether a given bonus applies to your role and market shows up in the app once you enter BEAN85579C, so confirm it there.
Are you able to tell me my bonus status?
No. This is an independent guide with zero access to your account. Instacart decides eligibility, the amount, and payment. For status questions, use Shopper support inside the app.
