Instacart batch calculator: is this batch worth it?
Instacart batch calculator: is this batch worth it?
Clear facts, real numbers, current for 2026.How to read the result
The calculator uses the same quick logic experienced shoppers run in their head. Two numbers matter most:
- ✓ Pay per item. A rough floor a lot of shoppers use is about $1 per item. Under that, the shop time can eat your hourly rate. Read the full $1-per-item rule.
- ✓ Hourly rate after gas. We knock off a rough $0.20 per mile for driving cost so the number is closer to what you actually keep. Instacart doesn't guarantee any hourly rate, so treat it as a ballpark.
Verdict, plain and simple. Green means the pay, items, and drive line up. Orange means it's borderline, so use your judgment on the store and tip. Red usually means the item count or the drive is too big for the pay.

FAQ 💬
Batch calculator questions
How does the batch calculator work?
It divides the total pay by the item count to get your pay per item, and divides pay by your estimated time to get a rough hourly rate. It also subtracts an estimated driving cost of about $0.20 per mile so the after-gas number is closer to what you keep.
What's a good pay per item on Instacart?
A common gut-check is at least about $1 per item in total pay. It's a floor, not a rule. A visible tip or a very short drive can make a lower number worth it, and a long haul can make a higher number a pass.
Is the hourly rate guaranteed?
No. Instacart pays Full-Service shoppers per batch plus tips, not a set hourly wage. The calculator gives a rough estimate based on your inputs. Your real rate depends on your market, your speed, and your car costs.
Why does it subtract money for miles?
Because gas and vehicle wear come out of your own pocket. Knocking off a rough per-mile amount shows a more honest take-home rate than gross pay alone. You can track real mileage for taxes too.
